Soccer

Well I tried to watch the world cup but could not take it. All that buzzing in the back ground, was that the grass snoring?
Even one of the annoucers at the end of the final called it "A pig of a game". The only reason the game exists in the US is because mothers don't want their snow flakes getting hurt or exerting themselves. And before you start with the fat comments I played rugby and hockey well into my 30's. Still work out every day.

Why bring up something you don't enjoy? As for the "snow flake" comment, get your fat ass off the couch and run for 90 minutes while someone else is kicking you in the shins. LOL

Ignorance amoung certain individuals is amazing. Simply continue watching and playing the sports you like and leave soccer for the men. LOL

You don't have to like it or enjoy it or respect it or care anything about it.

Capice?

Where do you get your facts????? Soccer does not have more injuries than other sports. Try the UNC NCAA injury study done each year. Cheerleading and diving lead the way.

Try playing hockey and get cross checked in the neck. Get hit with a 90 mph slap shot and you tell me if getting kicked in the shins hurts more. Trying getting hit into the board or take an open ice hit. Remember it's all legal. You wouldn't last five minutes on the ice. Come to think of it you probably couldn't stand up on skates. You would probably be holding on to the boards.
I've played soccer. The biggest babys i've ever played against in any sport were soccer players. The wining and crying  on the pitch would have been laughable if it wasn't true.

Pads only cover so much. The puck seems to always find that spot thats uncovered. To step on the ice you need to master the art of skating first.try doing the things we do on a slipery surface on a blade only a quarter of an inch wide. You guys can't even keep from falling on grass when someone bumps into you..
Anyone can run and kick a ball. Not everyone can skate. ;) Thats why you see 4 year olds out chasing a ball. It takes a good three years of skating for a kid before he even picks up a stick.Once he picks up a stick he has to master some basic stick skills like skating and stick handling and shooting before he can put it all together and actually play a game. That takes actual althleticism which most kids don't have. Now run along Princess and leave the "contact" sports to the men. :P

BS hockey is for kids wealthy enough to have their parents pay a couple of thousand a year to play. An average athlete could be a big star on his HS team. I've never heard of a kid practicing skating for 3 years to play, house leagues have plenty of kids who are just learning to skate. They also are out there at 5 and 6 years old playing mite level hockey (when they've bearly been walking for 3 years never mind skating). As far as who is a tougher athlete, you can get badly hurt in either sport if you don't watch your back, but hockey players are much better protected for the contact they receive.

Your post is the BS here.
1. It cost big bucks to play top competitive soccer now so thats a wash.
2. Another BS line. Average athletes could never be a star on a good H.S. team. Stars are stars no matter what the sport. You could be an average athlete an make a varsity team but be a star? Not going to happen.
3. If you haven't heard of 3 year olds practice skating then you don't know much about the sport. The Atom level starts at 4,so if you want to play, you start at 3.
Now here is the big difference between the two sports.
A. In hockey you have three levels not the what 9 or ten levels. That translates to flight 1,2,3, in soccer. If you are a flight 4 through 10 in soccer that ammounts to travel house leagues. I've seen flights 4 through 9 and they are a joke.
B. As far as who is tougher? No contest. In hockey the clock runs until it's deemed that a player is really hurt so the team can't have an unfair advantage. In soccer they add time. The B.S. display during the world cup with players faking injury to get extra time was a joke and a bad one at that.
C. While hockey player wear more padding, they still have contusions from being slashed with stick and hit pucks. I've seen guys sliced open from getting cut by skates. Whats worse, getting hit with a soccer ball or getting hit witha 5oz rubber dick thats been frozen in a freezer all night. I've been hit with both. After getting hit with a puck you want to puke. The only thing about soccer that would make you want to puke is watching it.

Whoever you are with your points about hockey vs. soccer you clearly don't know as much as you claim.

1. Competitive hockey costs thousands to play without even talking about the equipment and the tournaments in states far away, competitive soccer costs from about $500 to $2000 for premier level teams and a couple of hundred for travel teams, and tournaments tend to be within our state.

2. Average Athletes are stars on their teams because many of the better travel players in hockey don't play HS because the level of play is so bad. It's very difficult even for larger towns to find enough skilled players to fill up their Varsity hockey team, but most have Varsity and at least JV if not Freshman soccer teams.

3. Name a few of our current HS stars who started at 3, that's a joke there may be a handful of 3 year olds on skates but most players don't play before kindergarten, and by the way there is no such thing as Atom level in the US anymore. The youngest level is Mite.

A. In hockey you have three levels not the what 9 or ten levels. What? Hockey has AAA Major, AAA Minor, AA, A, B, and C, so that's potentially 6 levels in a sport that has a very limited number of clubs (not one in almost every town like soccer).

Your tough argument is your opinion, but not based on any facts. Many competitive soccer players unfortunately have had so many concussions that they have permanent brain injuries. What are you trying to hide with your preoccupation with toughness? Do people feel you seem too feminine or something?

First of all the word is spelled "frisbee". Second the word frisbee is the name for the flying disc they are using (originally just a brand name but is now often used in a generic fashion to describe all forms of sports flying discs). The game they are playing is called "Ultimate". Ultimate is one of the most inclusive of sports. Men, women, young and old can participate. The cost - about $10 for a disc. The benefits - great for aerobic conditioning and hand-eye coordination. Finally - it is just great fun. The sport remains fairly pure without the interference of pushy parents, coaches or trainers. You can call them wussies but they don't care. Those kids playing at Orange are many of the best and brightest to come out of CHS. They are currently college kids and grad students and are all great friends. I am proud to say that my son is one of them and I am proud that he has such amazing good friends. These are the kids that all through high school and college have found better and more productive ways to have fun than drunken binges.

Someone is just a bit to involved with her kid.

I'm not sure why you need to bash one sport in order to promote your favorite. Seems a bit childish to me.

I don't know. While the girls have some very strong underclassmen they have to replace 10 starters. Westfield returns many of their starters so it's going to be tough. Cranford has a great coach so I'm sure she will have them ready to compete.

As for the boys while they have lost a very strong group of players they return three very good starters. They also have a strong group of underclassmen. They have some big shoes to fill but I feel they can be more competitive than people think. I know it's pre-season but they just went up to Kearny and defeated them 4-1 while also beating Columbia and Union City 2-0.

Best of luck to both programs!

Strong group but not the strongest in years. Only one of them started varsity last year and just two others were on varsity. Class of 2007 & 2008 were both stronger as juniors. Also how can you look past last years graduating class. Very strong as juniors and damn good as seniors.

Funny that you are so high on the junior class. The incoming freshman class has consistently defeated the junior class in scrimmages. This is where the real strength of the program lies

Whats funny is how you talk about a sports team like its the most important thing in the world.
Its a game. think about how disappointed you're going to be if they don't win.
Its a game, most wont play after HS, get off their backs and let them have some fun.

No one is forcing anyone to pay anything. However,$1,000 for a sport who's attraction in developing countries is it's simplicity is a reason to be concerned.
Latley it seems the only persons benefitting from soccer are the people who are getting paid. What ever happened to volunteerism?
